What Is Early Intervention?
Early intervention supports eligible infants and toddlers from birth to age three who have developmental delays, diagnosed conditions, or concerns that may affect development. Early intervention is not just about the child. It is about supporting the family, too.
When Should I Make a Referral?
You do not have to wait until you are certain that something is wrong.
A referral may be helpful if your child:
- is not using words or communicating as expected
- is not walking or moving as expected
- has difficulty with feeding, play, behavior, or everyday routines
- has lost a skill they once had
- has a diagnosed condition that may affect development
- has concerns noticed by a caregiver, daycare provider, pediatrician, or other professional
Sometimes a parent simply feels that something is different.
That concern is enough to start a conversation.

We talk about your family’s everyday routines to learn what is going well, what feels challenging, and what matters most to you.
Curriculum-Based Assessment (CBA)
Your child’s development is observed through play, interaction, and age-appropriate activities to help identify strengths and areas where support may be helpful.
Family Training
Your EI works alongside you and your child, modeling practical strategies you can use during meals, play, dressing, outings, books, bedtime, and other everyday routines.
Service Coordination
Your EI/SC helps connect the pieces—therapy referrals, providers, appointments, community resources, IFSP needs, transition planning, and other supports.
Six-Month & Annual Reviews
Your team meets formally, in person, to review your child’s progress, discuss what is working, identify any new concerns, and update family priorities and IFSP outcomes as needed.
