What Is Early Intervention?
Early intervention is a free program for eligible children from birth to age three who have developmental delays or conditions that may affect development. Student Solutions provides research based, support, in your child’s everyday routines. We come to your home, daycare, or wherever your child naturally spends time because children learn best in the places they live and play.

When should I make a referral?
Every child develops at their own pace, but sometimes families notice that their child isn’t using words as expected, isn’t walking, has difficulty eating, makes limited eye contact, doesn’t seem interested in playing with others, or because their daycare has shared developmental concerns. Other children are referred because they were born prematurely or have a medical diagnosis that may affect their development.
Every early intervention journey in South Carolina begins with BabyNet. You don’t have to know whether your child qualifies. If you’re concerned, BabyNet will help determine eligibility

Does early intervention cost anything?
No. Early intervention services through BabyNet are provided at no cost to eligible families. There are no fees for family training or service coordination.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No. You can contact BabyNet yourself if you have concerns about your child’s development. Referrals can also come from physicians, hospitals, childcare providers, or other professionals.
Will my child be labeled when they start school?
No. Receiving early intervention services does not automatically mean your child will receive special education services later. As your child approaches age three, your family will have the opportunity to explore available options and decide what is best for your child.

No matter which path your family chooses after BabyNet, you’ll never be expected to figure it out alone. We’ll help you understand your options, answer your questions, and make a plan that’s right for your child.
Transition simply means preparing for the next stage of your child's development. Together, we'll help you explore options such as: ✓ Public preschool special education ✓ Head Start ✓ Community preschool programs ✓ Childcare settings ✓ Therapy services ✓ Home-based supports ✓ Case Management and community resources There is no one-size-fits-all answer.
📍 2 Years, 6 Months (2.6) – We send a referral to your local school district. This simply starts the conversation. It does not mean you're accepting services. You still have choices.
🤝 2 Years, 9 Months (2.9) – Transition Conference We'll meet together, If you prefer, we'll also discuss options such as meeting with your local school district, Head Start, community preschool, childcare, or other programs that fit your family's goals.
BabyNet services end on your child's third birthday. By then, our goal is for your family to have a clear plan and a smooth transition into the next services and supports that best meet your child's needs.🌱 If your child continues to qualify for services after age three, we'll help you understand the transition to OIDD services when appropriate, coordinate referrals, and connect you with community resources and therapy providers.

We don't automatically say goodbye.
Many families worry that their relationship with their early intervention team ends on their child’s third birthday. While BabyNet services end at age three, your child’s journey may continue.
Depending on your child’s needs and eligibility, some children continue receiving support through South Carolina’s 3–6 Early Intervention program, while others may qualify for Case Management services that continue beyond age six for individuals with permanent disabilities.
Whatever the next step looks like, we’re committed to helping your family understand your options and move forward with confidence.

Families may continue receiving developmental support until their child’s sixth birthday.
Services may include:
✓ Family training and coaching
✓ Developmental support in natural environments
✓ Service coordination
✓ Transition planning
✓ Ongoing developmental monitoring
Available for eligible children through the OIDD 3–6 program.
💚 Case Management For eligible individuals with qualifying disabilities
Instead of providing family training visits, Case Managers help families coordinate services and navigate available supports.
A Case Manager can help by:
✓ Coordinating services
✓ Connecting families with community resources
✓ Monitoring changing needs
✓ Assisting with referrals
✓ Helping families navigate systems
✓ Supporting long-term planning
Direct family training is not provided through Case Management services.
